This past year James Harden of the Oklahoma City Thunder was named the NBA's 6th Man of the Year. This award goes to the player who is considered the best NON-STARTER in the NBA.
Characteristics of the 6th Man:
- This player enters the game when the team needs an energy boost.
- This player can play multiple positions on the court.
- This player sacrifices his own personal needs for the betterment of the team.
To me the 6th Man displays numerous characteristics of a true leader. For example:
- Leaders need to be the spark plug that provides energy for their team, group, or organization.
- Leaders need to be well rounded and have the ability to do several things well.
- Leaders needs to have a servant heart that places the needs of others before their own.
I encourage you to approach leadership like the 6th Man in the NBA. Be enthusiastic, skilled, and humble.
Do you see other characteristics of the 6th man and it's relation to great leadership? If so, please share.
